So, I want to take a moment to talk a little bit about a trend I’m absolutely obsessed with.
If you’re anything like me and frequently stalk the Instagram popular page, I’m sure you’ve stumbled across a nail art page or two featuring chrome nails, or “mirror nails”.
This look that’s seemed to take the Internet by storm is achieved by rubbing a metallic powder onto dried gel polish with a sponge-tipped eye shadow brush and sealing it with a clear topcoat, leaving you with a manicure you can literally check yourself out in.
These chic, metallic beauties are all over social media right now, and since the second I laid eyes on them (shoutout to Jeffree Star – check his Insta @jeffreestar to see what I’m talking about) I NEEDED them.
However, even though this trend seemed to be everywhere social media-wise, I was having one hell of a time trying to find a salon near me that could actually do chrome nails.
One of my coworkers, who is honestly the queen of flawless, trendy nails, had recommended that I go to her manicurist months before, but, me being the procrastinator that I am, kept putting it off.
Then, on the exact same day that I convinced myself I HAD to have these chrome nails, she comes walking into work with the hottest set of pink metallic mirrored perfection on her fingers, and I knew I had better book myself an appointment with her girl STAT.
But, like I said, I’m a serious procrastinator. I don’t know, maybe it’s the adrenaline rush of getting down to the wire, or maybe my laziness just gets the best of me. Whatever it is, it’s a serious problem. Especially when you’re trying to make a last-minute appointment with a VERY popular nail tech.
Yep, you guessed it…I couldn’t get an appointment. And I was honestly SO depressed.
But, I was determined to get these bad boys done before my trip to Cabo, and was not about to take no for an answer.
So, I proceeded to call literally every salon I’ve ever been to, from the South Bay to Orange County, attempting to find someone who did chrome nails.
But, as you might have guessed, zero luck.
I couldn’t believe there weren’t more salons jumping on the mirror nails bandwagon, and it was seriously killing me. Like, half the salons hadn’t even heard of chrome nails…I mean, what the actual heck?! Have they completely neglected Insta for the past few months or what?
Just when I thought my luck couldn’t be any crappier, I got a text from my coworker’s manicurist saying she had a cancellation and could fit me in for a mani.
The stars aligned or someone upstairs was on my side, let me tell ya, because I was finally able to get hooked up with my own sassy set:
First of all, if you’re in the South Bay area, I highly recommend looking into Yuko’s “LaPinkie Beauty Care” in Torrance and making a nail appointment with Dee. Trust me, you will not regret it. She is so amazingly talented, and can absolutely recreate any design you find online or make whatever vision you may have in your mind come to life.
On the other hand, if you’re a budding nail tech or someone who prefers doing their own nails, here are a few sites I found where you can snag this chrome mirror powder:
And, of course, you can find this stuff all over Amazon as well.
Until next time,
