HITS + HELL NOs (Vol. 2)

Hi loves,

First of all, I hope everyone had an amazing Thanksgiving surrounded by friends and family!

Second, can I get an “AMEN” for #BlackFriday?!

Anyone else ready to shop ‘til you drop today (and again on #CyberMonday bc online shopping in bed over everything obviously)?

I know I am.

BUT WAIT, before you go swiping those credit cards left and right, I feel like I should lend a little helping hand and let you in on a few hit & hell no items I’ve come across recently.

I mean, I wouldn’t want you stuffing stockings (your own or others’) with any beauty duds.

Ok, so, let me begin by reiterating that I was having the WORST cystic acne breakouts of my life over the summer.

Truly, it was getting so bad that I wanted to cry every day and no amount of makeup helped to cover it up or made me feel confident when out in public.

It was honestly to the point where everyone and their mother was telling me to go to the dermatologist because nothing (and I mean nothinggg) I was trying at home was helping to remedy the situation.

Now, I have nothing against the dermatologist, but I had gone to see one in high school and it really did nothing for me. I was prescribed an antibiotic that worked just okay for a few months, but after a while the effects wore off and I was breaking out again. So, meh.

I also did NOT want to get into the Accutane discussion. I know the product has come such a long way over the years and has made so many people incredibly happy with their skin, but there are risks and side effects associated with the drug that I just wasn’t willing to put my body through. IMG_0196

Basically, I was being stubborn and the only option I gave myself was to keep researching products that might make a difference.

Then, one day as I was desperately scouring the Internet for a miracle, I remembered a conversation I had with one of the girls I work with.

I was pretty much having a mental breakdown about my skin issues and she mentioned that I might want to switch to products that were “non-comedogenic”. She had similar problems with her skin in the past, but making that switch along with getting regular facials really helped her.

Now, for those of you who have no clue know what “non-comedogenic” means, don’t worry. I didn’t either. Essentially, though, it indicates skincare products and makeup that are formulated in such a way that they will not block your pores.

I knew blocked pores were obviously part of my irritation equation, but I didn’t think the products I was using could be that bad for my skin. I mean, they were all high-end bands that were expensive AF, so they better be good, right?

I began digging through my mountains of makeup and literally only found one product that was marked “non-comedogenic”.

Long story short, I went back on my computer right away and starting looking up non-comedogenic products to replace as many of the products I was currently using as possible.

Along the way, I found 4 HIT products that have absolutely saved my skin over the past few months, that I can’t wait to share with you.

+ Face Halo

Let me just say I am OBSESSED with this first HIT product.

The Face Halo changed my life and has saved me some serious dough along the way too.
This makeup-removing blessing is insane and all you need is water to make the magic happen. Image result for face halo

Face Halo is a facial cleansing pad made up of fiber strands that are 100 times finer than a human hair. When you wet the pad with water and gently rub over your skin, it is able to reach deep into your pores to remove and trap makeup.

I’m not going to lie, I was skeptical when I first saw Chloe Morello review this product on her YouTube channel. But, the more I watched/researched, the more I trusted the product and decided I needed to give it a shot.

Holy crap, you guys…this thing WORKS. Watch these videos if you don’t believe me: Click here and here.

I honestly don’t see the need to ever use a makeup wipe again if I don’t have to.

I love that something so simple can be so effective. All you need is water and the pads are reusable. You just throw them in the wash with the rest of your whites and voila! Just like new.

Not to mention it’s helped my skin immensely since I’m no longer irritating it with harsh cleansers or chemicals.

So, let’s do the math: reusable + all you need is water = no more makeup wipes or cleansers = save a shit ton of money + lessen your ecological footprint.

In other words, everybody wins.

Just trust me and go get your Face Halo pack today!

+ Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater

I love this product because I might be the biggest “rose” fan on the planet. Anything with rose fragrance or rosewater is a winner in my Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs and Rosewaterbook.

But, aside from the fresh rosy scent, I love the way this product makes my skin feel. It’s so gentle and helps to calm any irritation I might have.

I like to spray this mist on my face immediately after taking off my makeup with my Face Halo, let it soak in, and then follow up with a moisturizer.

You can even use it to set your makeup, which is great for your everyday makeup routine because it’s so inexpensive.

Don’t get me wrong, when it comes to the full weekend beat, I’ll always be a Fix+ girl, but this spray is an awesome substitute during the week for my lighter makeup looks.

+ Clinique Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief

So, on my quest to go fully non-comedogenic with my skincare routine, I knew the hardest part would be to find a moisturizer that fit my needs.

I have very dry skin, so I would always steer toward more oily products to help with that. However, those products often left me with clogged pores.

Luckily, I came across Clinique’s Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief cream-gel.

This product has done wonders for my skin since using it both day and night for the past few months.

Moisture Surge™ Extended Thirst Relief

It’s marketed as “nature’s perfect moisture magnet,” and Clinique ain’t lyin’!

This hydrating gel-like cream leaves my skin feeling extra plumped, dewy, and glowy, while being completely oil-free, non-comedogenic, fragrance-free, and paraben-free.

What more could your skin ask for in a moisturizer?

Clinique offers a few other products in the moisture surge family as well that I cannot wait to get my hands on. Check them out here.

*Black Friday Deal: 25% OFF any order (exclusions apply) – use code: 25OFF. Plus a FREE full size product with any order of $75 (up to a $54.50 value).

+ Lancôme La Base Pro Perfecting Makeup Primer

Last, but not least, you guys need Lancôme’s La Base Pro Perfecting Makeup Primer if you have irritable skin.

This primer is non-comedogenic, obviously, and is seriously silky smooth on the skin. 096018124968_LABASEPRO_2014_1000x1000

I love the way it feels, and it works really well.

I wear this primer everyday whether I’m doing a full face of makeup or a lighter workday look, and hardly anything budges by the end of the day.

This primer is definitely up there with some of the more popular primers in terms of effectiveness, but it gets an A+ in my book because it doesn’t clog my pores or make me break out after a full day in makeup.

+ Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask

So, I’m sure many of you are aware of the K-Beauty (Korean skincare) craze going on right now in the beauty and wellness world.

I’ve personally heard so many great things about Korean skincare products that I figured I’d better test the waters myself if I ever came across a product that interested me.

Well, while wandering through Sephora one day, a simple white box with a watermelon on it caught my eye. When I picked up the box, I realized it was a K-Beauty product from Glow Recipe, a brand I’d been seeing pop up all over social media recently. The box contained this super cute glass jar with a millennial pink gel-cream inside.

Honestly, I was sold by the packaging, but when I read the description, I was even more convinced that I needed this product in my life.

Basically it promised “baby soft and bright skin in the AM, effortlessly”. I’m in.

Like I said, I have really dry skin, so anything to add a little dewy glow is something I don’t mind investing in. Plus, it was watermelon-scented, soo yes please.

I wanted to love this product so much, guys, but I just didn’t have the experience I was hoping for. I tried. I tried so hard to love it…

So, you put the mask on at night after you finish the rest of your nighttime skin routine.

What I did like is that the formula isn’t sticky and absorbs into your skin right after application so it doesn’t get a goopy mess all over your pillow.

Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask

What I didn’t like was that in the AM my face really wasn’t all that bright and glowy. I didn’t notice much of a difference if I’m being completely honest.

Also, and I know it’s a peel mask, okay? But the product peeled and got all over the place; on my sheets, my clothes, and stuck in my hairline. Maybe I’m just a crazy sleeper, but if I didn’t wash my hair right away, I was picking that stuff out of my hairline all day.

Not to mention the fragrance was a little too strong for my liking. I’m all for watermelon, but this smelled like that super fake watermelon. Kind of felt like I was rubbing a watermelon Jolly Rancher all over my face.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m sure there are other K-Beauty products out there that I will absolutely love; this just wasn’t my favorite.

Who knows, though, maybe once I clear all of my acne and heal my scars I will try it again and see different results. Until then, however, the consensus is a HELL NO.

But, if you’re interested in trying out K-Beauty products for yourself, head to Glow Recipe to scope out all of your options today while the Black Friday sale lasts.

+ Tarte Shape Tape Concealer

I am becoming a really big fan of Tarte products, I must say, and their Shape Tape Contour Concealer is a big reason as to why.

shape tape.jpg

This concealer works wonders.

Now, it isn’t labeled as non-comedogenic from what I’ve researched, but it is vegan, paraben-free, gluten-free, and packed with mango seed and shea butter to help naturally illuminate and regenerate your complexion.

I have very sensitive skin, and I’ve had nothing but a good experience with this product so far in terms of irritation.

Not to mention this concealer comes in 14 different shades, which is amazing for someone with a really hard-to-match olive-y skin tone like me.

Definitely a HIT.

+ Lavanila The Healthy Deodorant

I have been battling with deodorants since the dawn of time.

I hate women’s deodorants. IDK why, I just don’t like the way they feel, the way they smell, or the way they seem to get all over the damn place.

TBH, I use men’s deodorant, which, BTW, Austin hates. We use the same brand and he doesn’t like when I smell like him. It’s pure comedy.

I just like the men’s gel stick deodorants because they aren’t goopy like the women’s gel deodorants.Image result for the healthy deodorant

I mean, no one wants a mess, right? Plus, it lasts all day, so it’s ideal.

Truthfully, though, I’ve been hearing so many bad things about the chemicals in deodorants lately, that half the time I don’t want to use it at all…and half the time I don’t use it at all, which Austin also doesn’t like. I don’t blame him.

No one wants to stink, but no one should want all those nasty chemicals in their body either.

This was my dilemma for years until I stumbled across Lavanila’s The Healthy Deodorant.

I’m super about this brand right now, and love that this deodorant is packed with pure essential oils and antioxidants. Much like a few of the other products on this list, it’s paraben-free as well as aluminum-free and lacks many of the harsh chemicals found in other popular brands.

I won’t say it doesn’t rub off on your clothes at all, because it does a bit, but it’s definitely much more sheer and doesn’t stain like most other deodorants, which is great.

Truthfully, I didn’t think anything would ever be able to help wean me off of men’s deodorant, but I am definitely a fan of The Healthy Deodorant and plan to repurchase.

If you’re interested in switching up your anti-stink routine, give Lavanila deodorant a go.

+ Neutrogena Light Therapy Acne Mask

Yet another product I had faith in, but that let me down.

Let’s be real, this mask is made for people with minimal acne irritation.

I don’t know why I thouImage result for neutrogena light therapy maskght it would be able to cure my cystic bumps, but I was overly optimistic in a product I purchased from Target.

Not that I don’t love Target, but they aren’t going to carry the world’s greatest acne light treatment. That’s something you go pay lots of money and see a specialist for.

If you do have minor acne, though, you may see results from this product after continued use.

It’s definitely a tool that you have to give quality time to work, which I didn’t exactly do.

I went through one activator cycle and decided it wasn’t the treatment I needed. Like I said, I think my skin was already too irritated for this product to do much healing.

However, I am curious to see if any of you have had any luck with this product and what skin type you have, so let me know what your experience was like.

Personally, I’m going to call this a HELL NO, but I usually love Neutrogena products so go shop their Black Friday sale anyways, okay?

*Black Friday Deal: 40% OFF site wide. Plus, spend $40 and get a free Oil-Free Moisture Broad Spectrum SPF 15 lotion.

Phew! That was a long one, but I hope you enjoyed and found some of this information helpful.

Now go! Shop, be merry, and give me your feedback if you’ve tried any of these products in the comments below.

Until next time.
