#Iam_ PRINCESS

imageedit_4_5244956132

In high school I was the varsity cheer captain. I was the Student Body Commissioner of Spirit, full of pep and rah-rah-rah. I drove a silver VW bug (the one with the built-in flower vase, obviously) and woke up extra early to style my side bangs. I loved a fresh set of pink & white acrylic nails, and I believed more in my eyeliner than I believed in most people. Needless to say, it wasn’t entirely shocking when my senior class voted me “most feminine” in the yearbook. Yep. I was even on prom court – literally a princess.

Today, not much has changed. I know people still see me as especially feminine; prissy even.

I mean I do wake up at 4:30am every other week just to get my eyelash extensions done. My favorite activity is online shopping. I never get my hair wet, and may the Lord be with you if you ever touch my face post makeup application. I practically live for a good photo op, and I’m a sucker for all things millennial pink.

Prissy princess, right?

Let’s be honest, we all know a “prissy princess” or two. And, let’s be even more honest, at first glance we stereotype them.

It’s widely perceived that women who are overly feminine don’t necessarily have much to offer; they are weak-minded, simple, conceited. They ride on the coattails of their looks, and are often pegged as far less admirable than women running for political office in a male-dominated society or a five-time gold medal winning Olympian.

But I don’t buy-in to the stereotype.

Why? Because underneath the highlighter and self-tanner, I know exactly what I am. I am a college grad – summa cum laude. I’m opinionated, independent, and rebellious. I’m an avid football fanatic, sci-fi/fantasy geek, heavy metal loving, full-time HR professional, and, most recently, lifestyle blogger. I am complex, unique, creative, and empowered. I know what I want and I work my butt off until it’s mine, all while frequently adding to my designer bikini collection.

As former professional tennis player, Martina Navratilova, once said, “Labels are for clothing. Labels are not for people,” and what you see is rarely ever just what you get. There is much more to today’s “feminine” woman, and all women for that matter, than meets the eye.

I’ve learned to embrace my femininity and wear it as a badge of honor. Had it not been for my love of all things pretty and millennial pink, I never would have stepped out of my comfort zone to launch LS. Having this outlet where I am free to be raw, real, and connect with ladies who enjoy the same things I do is everything.

So, yes, I am most definitely a princess, and I love wearing that crown.
