My Nightly Skincare Routine

Hi there, lovers.

So, as promised, I’m going to take a quick sec to walk y’all through my nightly skincare routine. Mmkay?

I know I’ve mentioned this 1,675,984 times in previous posts, but, in case you missed the memo, I have SUPER sensitive, dry, acne-prone skin.

It’s a legit nightmare, and as far as I’m concerned adult acne can basically suck it.

But, anyways…despite having the most difficult skin in the world to work with, I believe I have FINALLY found a regimen that works. Like really works.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, NONCOMEDOGENIC or NO THANKS!

Guys, I can’t preach this enough. If you have troublesome skin, lay off the harsh skincare and makeup. It’s not doing you any favors.

Ever since I made the switch to a fully noncomedogenic base (skincare, primer, foundation, concealer), I have noticed a world of difference in my skin.

Truly, though, I think the biggest difference is due to my nightly skincare routine.

I’ve put a LOT of time into researching skincare products that are suitable for my skin type over the past few months (like, literally you’d think it was my second job or something). But, I’m so glad I did because these next few products in conjunction have pretty much changed my life.

STEP 1: Cleanse with Face Halo

Wet it and go to town. Ugh, I am obsessed with this thing.

Guys, buy one. It takes off virtually ALL of my makeup with JUST water.

I won’t rant and rave about this since I’ve already done that in this post, but I’m telling you this little puff is magic. Love.

STEP 2: Steam It

After I cleanse, I usually steam my face to open my pores. I feel like this step helps break up any kind of leftover gunk in the pores and prep them to better absorb my skincare products.

I use the Dr. Dennis Gross Pro Facial Steamer. It’s life.

STEP 3: Micellar Water

After a good steam I do a quick sweep over the face with micellar water on a cotton pad. This is my fave brand.

STEP 4: Exfoliate and Nourish with a Daily Peel

If you haven’t already bought into the hype of the Dr. Dennis Gross daily peel pads, you need to. You just do.

These products are amazing.

Personally, I use the Alpha Beta Ultra Gentile Daily Peel for Sensitive Skin, and even then I can feel the intensity of the product.

After just one use of the peel pads I could see and feel a difference, and I knew I was hooked.

Side note: Also testing out a daytime exfoliator from Glossier, so I’ll let you know how that pans out.

STEP 5: Collagen Serum

GUYS. This is my favorite part of my entire routine and I swear I look forward to taking my makeup off all day just because of this product.

I am so into it. This serum is packed with collagen and hyaluronic acid, which work to plump, smooth, and hydrate the skin.

This stuff is liquid gold and totally one of those Holy Grail products I will continue to buy again and again. AND IT’S ONLY $20.

Good serums these days are crazy expensive, and in just a short time this product has proven to be more effective than 90% of the pricey serums I’ve purchased in the past. My skin drinks it up.

STEP 6: Moisturize

Next, I pack on the noncomedogenic moisturizer. I’ve been a sucker for the Clinique Moisture Surge line lately. I use this one during the day and this one at night; both extremely hydrating and so good for your skin.

STEP 7: Rosewater Spritz

Finally, a spritz spritz here and a spritz spritz there. I really go to town.

What can I say? I love a good rose water spray – this one from Herbivore and this one by Mario Badescu especially. I feel like it’s just the refreshing, calming icing on the cake, you know?

+ + +

Well, kittens, that’s the routine I’ve been testing out for quite a few months now, and I’m so happy to say that this time around I’m finally starting to see results.

It is SO hard to post these pictures, but I want you to see how far my skin has come, largely because of these products.

Now, I’m not saying that my skin is finally perfect by any means. There is still a lot of improvement to be made. However, all of my cystic acne has completely cleared and I hardly ever have a breakout anymore. Any redness left is just scarring that has also begun to fade, so I’m super pleased with that.

I know the struggle with acne and dry skin is real, but don’t give up and keep searching for the products that are right for you. As you can see, it took a ton of trial and error for me to get it right.

Even though my skin still has a long way to go, I’m encouraged by how far it’s come, and I hope some of these products can help bring you the same satisfaction and confidence.

Let me know if you’ve tried any of the products listed and what you think of them. Also, talk to me about your “Holy Grail” products in the comments below. I’m always looking to try something new!

Until next time.
