Oil Obsessed

Skincare, skincare, skincare.

These days, that’s about all I’ve got on my mind.

Maybe it was the idea of now technically being in my “mid-twenties” (and the fear of the wrinkles that will likely ensue from this point forward) or my heated ongoing battle against blemishes that led me to discover facial oils. Or, maybe, just maybe, I spend far too much time scrolling through skincare product pages on Instagram. Who can really say?

Whatever the case may be, all I know for sure is that facial oils have literally saved my skin.

I have always been one of the “lucky ones” who was blessed with acne-prone combination skin. You know, that skin type that no amount of acne treatment seemed to better.

I mean, you name it, I’ve tried it, and it didn’t work for me. At least not completely.

Before oils, I hadn’t come across a single acne solution that not only cleared my acne, but also left my skin feeling smooth and hydrated.

Most acne products are super drying and take away that fresh Photoshopped glow we all want. Needless to say, after many failed attempts, I was not about that life.

That’s why I am so glad I did my research and started using facial oils. Not only do I use these products as a method of skin hydration, but I also use them to zap zits and cleanse my face.

I know what you’re thinking – oils are essentially what clog your pores and create acne to being with, so how the hell could they help prevent breakouts?

Trust me, I wasn’t so keen on the idea at first myself.

However, the Internet was raving about this renewed ancient method of skincare, so I couldn’t help but give in to the intrigue of it all.

Over the past few months I’ve rallied around this trend and have found a few facial oils that will honestly be part of my skincare routine for life.

First, it’s important to understand that every oil is unique. Not all will conquer acne or reduce fine lines. Likewise, everyone’s skin differs to some degree, so if you have particularly sensitive skin, it may be best to consult your dermatologist before use.

Now, it’s obvious that facial oils are amazing for skin hydration, but they are also one of the best ways to fight wrinkles and protect your skin.

Certain facial oils are packed with antioxidants that prevent aging and restore firmness and elasticity to the skin.

My favorite is Josie Maran‘s 100% Pure Argan Oil. I’m in love with this stuff.

It’s rich in vitamin E and essential fatty acids that dig deep to hydrate and revitalize. Not to mention it absorbs quickly so your skin doesn’t feel overly greasy. You’re simply left with a fresh, dewy glow. Plus, it smells like heaven.

Beautycounter also makes a few facial oils that balance, sooth, and hydrate that I’d strongly recommend, along with Farsali face oils, which are equally great.

Now, on the flipside of the facial oil spectrum are the zit zappers – like jojoba and tea tree oils.

I’ve only just recently jumped on the tea tree oil bandwagon to cure blemishes, but, let me tell ya, I am a believer.

I had a huge zit on my chin a few weeks ago – and I’m not talking about a nice, pop-worthy whitehead, I’m talking about one of those deep suckers that hurt like hell if the wind blows on your face too hard.

Luckily, I had just purchased some tea tree oil and decided this was as good a time as any to give it a go.

Holy crap, you guys. This stuff is magic.

I rubbed some on the spot before I went to bed for two nights, and by day three that bad boy was toast. I mean, it was completely gone.

The only downfall to this product would be if you are sensitive to smell because it definitely has a strong scent, but other than that, it’s pure gold.

I have to say, tea tree oil has given my Mario Badescu Drying Lotion a serious run for its money.

Finally, and I think these might be my favorite oils, there’s the cleansers. Yep, oils that double as face wash.

I was honestly skeptical about using facial oils as cleansers, but now that I’m hooked, no other cleanser does the job for me.

Sure, face scrubs and bar soaps remove impurities and makeup, but they’re often rough and leave skin feeling dry.

No bueno.

With oil cleansers, your skin never feels tight or irritated.

Josie Maran’s Argan Cleansing Oil is everythinggg. I’m obsessed with the way it breaks down even my most stubborn makeup and leaves my skin feeling moisturized and refreshed.

Not to mention this product is non-greasy, smells great, and works to restore skin’s natural moisture and pH balance.

I’m also a big fan of Burt’s Bees Facial Cleansing Oil because it contains coconut oil (my fave) along with being rich in vitamin E and argan oil.

I’m serious, guys. If you have troubled skin or feel like there is just something missing from your current skincare regimen, try incorporating some of these oils into your daily routine.

My skin has improved so much since I started using facial oils and I know yours will too.

Well, here’s to hoping you babes hop on the oil train so you can start feeling as beautiful on the outside as you are on the inside.

Until next time,
